What Are

Dentures

Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth that are typically made to replace missing teeth and the surrounding tissues. Depending on how it has been fitted for you, it can be either removed or fixed within your jaws.

If you have missing teeth, dentures are a great option to restore aesthetics and facial proportion by mimicking your natural teeth. They are also used for functional purposes such as restoring a person’s ability to chew and speak effectively.

The Different Types Of Dentures

There are different types of dentures. During appointment, Dr Ash will let you know the available alternatives best suited to your case.

The most common types of dentures are:

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are for situations where patients have lost all their teeth. Oftentimes referred to as ‘full’ dentures, they will attach to the patient’s gum line.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures may be used when natural teeth still remain, with the dentures secured to the remaining teeth for support.

Implant Supported Dentures

Unlike complete dentures which attach to the gums, implant-supported dentures are attached to surgically implanted screws in the jawbone. The benefits are added strength, peace of mind that it is stable and secure, and it can also help preserve the jawbone.

Benefits Of Dentures

Although there are many newer, more permanent solutions to missing teeth in dentistry nowadays, dentures still have their place with lots of benefits:

Relative Affordability

Dentures are a great alternative for replacing missing teeth compared to other options such as dental implants.

Teeth replacements such as dentures help preserve the alignment of teeth and thus the entire facial proportion, preventing a sunken appearance.

Regaining the basic functional features of teeth such as chewing, speaking and restoring the facial structure means it can help you feel more confident.

Dentures are relatively easy to clean and maintain. After the successful completion of your dentures, Dr Ash will advise you on the best practices to regularly clean and keep them in good condition.

Removable dentures are non-invasive. They do not require any surgical procedures.
