Dental Crowns

Troublesome teeth, discolouration, fractures, fillings and more can all be transformed with the use of dental crowns.

What Are Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are custom made covers (often referred to as ‘caps’) that encase a decayed, damaged or broken tooth . The crown covers the entire tooth restoring its natural shape and appearance, and can add strength too.

A well-crafted dental crown should fit seamlessly into your natural smile, and if done correctly should be indistinguishable from your normal teeth.

Common Reasons for Getting a Dental Crown

Dental crowns are very versatile, and can be used in a number of different circumstances:
Damaged Teeth: If you have a tooth that’s decayed, a large filling, or even a fracture, a crown can be used to protect it and add strength.

Cosmetic: Dental crowns aren’t just for troublesome teeth, they can be used in a cosmetic way too, for things like discoloured teeth, or teeth that are misshapen.

The Dental Crown Procedure, And What To Expect

The dental crown procedure is a relatively straightforward process, but it takes time, experience and extreme attention to detail to get it right for that perfectly natural look. We start off the procedure with an initial consultation, where we take X-rays and perform a thorough examination of the affected tooth.

Once we’ve got the results back from all our testing, we’ll give you a detailed breakdown of costs, so that you’re fully aware of expenses ahead of time. The procedure itself will take place over two visits.

The first visit is the preparation; getting the affected tooth ready, and creating detailed scans for the creation of the crown itself. These 3D scans are then sent away and processed by our digital laboratory, utilising cutting edge 3D printing and milling technology to build the crown, custom-made to fit perfectly into your smile.

Once the crowns are complete, we’ll get you in for a final treatment to fix the crowns into place, and finish things off with a final polish to seamlessly blend the crown into the surrounding teeth.

From start to finish the procedure typically takes no longer than a week or two.

Maintenance, And What To Expect

As with most dental procedures, dental crowns do come with a degree of maintenance to keep them looking at their best for the longest time possible, however the impact is minimal.

Simply following along with good dental hygiene practices: brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups, alongside exercising caution when biting into hard foods is more than sufficient to keep on top of things.
